Written by Ryan Germ • Photo by Michael Crusty Since the beginning of punk history, Canada has pumped out some great acts under many different punk subgenres. No Warning and Comeback Kid for hardcore, PUP for pop punk, and AlexisOnFire for emo. The band I believe is the greatest act in Canadian garage punk history and one of the best garage punk bands across the whole globe is none other than Kïll Cheerleadër. One of the biggest reasons they are one of the best is because of dynamic vocalist and guitarist Anthony Bleed/Useless. Today, I had the pleasure of asking him a few questions about his time in Kïll Cheerleadër, Die Mannequin, and Aciidz ahead of the latter’s Kïll Cheerleadër set on December 6th at the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto. Shadowtalkers: Why are you into punk? Anthony: I guess it started with being exposed by my older brothers to Maiden and GnR when I was little, and immediately loving them..elements of those bands sounds led me to punk rock..one of my high school buddies ...

Top 5 Thursday #3: Bands We’re Thankful For

Scott Danshaw’s List: Jay Reatard - No one took the foundations of “garage punk” laid out by bands like Oblivians to the heights Jay did. In my humble opinion he’s one of the best song writers of all time, just listen to the album Blood Visions if you don’t believe me. Dead Boys - This band is the standard bearers of all things punk. If the Ramones & Sex Pistols “created” punk then Dead Boys are the band that gave it that no fucks given attitude. Not to mention having one of the greatest frontmen to ever do it in the late Stiv Bators. Kill Cheerleader - if you read my article on their record “All Hail” then you know my stance on this band. They took the furiousity of punk, the blistering guitar work of 80’s heavy metal, and that “fuck you” rock n roll attitude that seemed to be lost after the 80s and made one of the best records of the early 00’s. Give “All Hail a listen and you’ll see what I mean. Ceremony - This band is the epitome of punk. From the quick power violence of ...

I can acknowledge that mistake as we’re still ironing out the kinks. So while shooting the shit with my boy Ethan he suggested a great idea, that I only go in depth for my top 10 each week. Now I’m a bit of an idiot so that didn’t occur to me beforehand, but we’re here now so without any further ado I’ll list my 25-11 and go in depth on the top 10. Records outside the top 10: OBW - Some Of Us May Never See The World Hatebreed - Satisfaction Death Threat - Last Dayz Botch - We Are The Romans Blacklisted - Eye For An Eye Aphex Twin - Windowlicker Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy EP Thursday - 5 Stories Falling Red Chord - Fused Together… Kids Like Us - Outta Control Found Dead Hanging - Dulling… Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal I&D - Fine Art… Frail - No Industry Last Lights - No...
