Wrestle Wednesdays: Top 5 Wrestling Games

By Ryan Germ

Welcome to our new series Wrestle Wednesdays where I talk about pro wrestling shit that has entertained me recently. I know a lot of yall are here for the music side, and don’t worry that will always be our focus. But now you also get wrestling content too. Unlike T5T, this list will be in order from my least favorite to my favorite.

Anyways our first Wrestle Wednesday is going to be my countdown for my top 5 wrestling games of all time, I played almost every single wrestling game besides a select few, so let’s get into it.

Honorable mentions:

Hybrid Wrestler - I beat this game in a day, very fun proto MMA game so if you want some good shoot style shit come here instead of that shitty UWF-I game.

Giant Gram 2000: Worth a shot, pretty good game but it was too hard for me to get into.

All Star Pro Wrestling 3: Career mode is fun, but that’s really it besides the gameplay which is also pretty good. If they made a 4th I could see it seeping into the top 5.

SVR 2011: I’m biased cuz this was the first game I ever played. So I can’t put this in the top 5 because I’m biased, even more so towards this than other games on the list.

Fire Pro Returns: I enjoy World more but this has the nostalgia, a fun match maker mode, and a killer soundtrack. I’m being serious go put on the match maker organizations song right now. It rips.

#5. WWE 2k25: Ok yeah this is controversial but remember the mess that was 2k20? This game has a lot more depth, universe is the same as always but it’s still pretty fun, the chain wrestling return is well worth it, and this series features one of the best creation suites ever. I enjoy playing this game a lot, you can play it as a button masher and survive. But if you time when to strike and time specific moves in grapples the game rewards you.

#4. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2: It wouldn’t be a valid list of best wrestling games without an AKI title on here. I believe the momentum system is overrated but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not good. The creation suite in this game is shockingly robust for its time, and the season mode is killer as it swaps out the glitz and glamour of the WWF/E for the sporty atmosphere of 90’s All Japan. It’s heavily inspired by the prevelant Kings Road style of wrestling so you know what that means, head drops galore in everyone’s moveset.

#3. Smackdown Vs Raw 2007: I was going to pick 06 but I’ll choose 07 for the slight graphical upgrade and being similar to 06. This is really fun. It has a legendary season mode and an ok creation suite, but it shines brighter than a diamond when it comes to GM Mode. Drafting random jobbers and making them kill it is always fun, or booking dream matches with TNA Kurt Angle. The gameplay is of course prime SVR shenanigans, and who doesn’t love that? Whatever you do you’re bound to find something you enjoy.

#2. Fire Pro Wrestling World: I’ve been playing this like a motherfucker to the point where I can hold my own on level 9. I’m in love with the Fire Promoter because it goes back to the goal of making money that the old promoter of the ring mode had. The creation is easily top 2, and it might not be 2.

#1. King Of Colosseum 2: imagine a liscensed Fire Pro game, sounds sick right? Now imagine a liscensed 3D Fire Pro Game, sounds really cool. Now imagine a liscensed 3D Fire Pro game that dropped in the early 2000’s, sounds too good to be true. But it exists. It’s one of my all time favorites because of how robust it is, how accurately it portrays the build up of a kings road match, and the presentation is flawless. Go play it if you never had, it’s worth a good look.
